Pocket Full of Dreams - Original Sculpture
Description
Medium: Kiln-formed, up-cycled glass, with wire mesh on a cherry slab
Collection: Dimension
Pocket Full of Dreams is a wall-mounted mixed-media sculpture from the series “A Conversation Between Glass and Wood.” The work explores the natural dialogue between the fluid movement of glass and the organic structure of wood.
The kiln-formed glass was created using a custom fiber mold that I designed by studying the growth rings and patterns of the walnut slab. Tempered glass is first cleaned, then carefully shattered and arranged in a flat pattern before being fused in the kiln.
The glass is fused following the growth pattern found in the wood - echoing the natural rhythm. The finished glass elements are then mounted to a carefully selected walnut slab that was milled, planed, cut, and sanded to its final form. The walnut has a hand buffed wax finish.
Pocket Full of Dreams has been exhibited in multiple national exhibitions and reflects my ongoing exploration of the expressive relationship between natural materials and sculptural form.
