Part of the Enduring Series, Aqua Study was the 2nd piece. I had jumped headfirst into creating Soaring (also known as Untethered) using stick charcoal. I loved the looseness and flow of the charcoal with water, but I wondered how far I could push it. I purchased pure black charcoal powder and went to studio testing how to make it liquid, and how it would react to acrylic paint. This little piece was one result. It turned out so loose, so refreshing, and just so full of life, I framed it.
The Enduring Series was created during a pretty tumultuous period in my life, but this little blue study, like life, was a pure glimmer, saying "look at this moment of beauty, this all will pass."
