This is a pandemic piece.  I worked on it during the lockdown of 2020.  I put on a mask and snuck downtown.  The streets were totally empty.  It was so bizarre to be out.  I came in contact with no one.  I parked, snuck into The Davis Building, and locked myself in my studio.  I LOVE OLD BARNS! This is the 4th barn that I've done.  But this one is so special because it has dual meanings.  "And Then They Were Gone" is about the disappearance of agricultural architecture, but also about all of the people we lost during the pandemic.  We watch these decade olds barns as they sit on the landscape year after year and change with the weather until finally they are gone.  They are so beautiful.

And Then They Were Gone was a pandemic painting done in March of 2020.  It was my 3rd barn in the series that is looking at the disappearance of agricultural architecture.  The beauty of these amazing barns on the landscape as they basically disintegrate.  Then the pandemic hit and this piece had 2 meanings.  It also became about the beauty and impermanence of life as we watched so many people die in 2020.
